The doctor called with the results and all looks normal (including liver enzymes??). This means it was probably neither a virus nor appendicitis. He says it may have been a partial bowel obstruction that resolved from my 36 hour fluid fast. If I am not better on Monday I am going to go back but meanwhile am trying to sip applesauce and see if that is OK. I'm supposed to remain alert for signs of appendicitis even though its unlikely now.
I feel better having eaten a bland chicken soup with mushy carrots for dinner.

Okay, you have probably forgotten who I am, but I check into your blog a few times a week. Let me tell you, being a kindergarten teacher in Cal was fun showing my co-workers the pictures of your visit to Australia!!
As for your illness....the FIRST thing that came to my mind was "C-Diff"..ask your doctor about it! I got it when I was pregnant, and I had to go to m doctor 3 times before she tested me. When it came back positive, she was shocked because it usually occurs in nursing homes, and with people who have been camping or been our of the country. After only a few hours on antibiotics...I was already feeling like there was hope!
If you really have it...it won't matter what you eat...it all comes out in a short bit after eating. NOTHING makes it better except drugs. I was on a broth diet until I was tested and found positive!
Take care of yourself!
Hi Gina
Thanks for checking the blog. I love to meet / remeet the silent reader :)
I am feeling better this morning but the doctor doesn't think its something infectious because of the bloodwork.
Also, I don't have diarrhea or nausea - just severe abdominal cramping, bloating and just plain old pain about 3 hours after I eat. Its so frustrating. I am so sick of soup that I ate white toast (with vegemite) this morning and am hoping it not something I regret at midday.
Shannon
hey Shannon,
Sorry to hear you're sick. Sounds awful - I do hope you can eat (properly) soon. Didn't anyone tell you that mothers are not supposed to get sick?
On a lighter note: Garrett and Luca went for an inaugural sail today. No shipwrecks, no stranding :-)
We're calling the boat "Home Leave" (a reference to its financial backing :-).
Get well soon
Tam
Hi Tam
I am so sorry to have neglected your two emails (both of which I have mentally replied to). I am envious of the boat and pleased your overcame the emotional scars of your Worst Experience Ever.
I recall that I left you hanging on a ladder at a tanker mooring after an involuntary gybe. I had asked you to hang onto the ladder and hold the boat when a big wind came thorugh but the boat swung away in the waves and you were left hanging on the wall until rescued by a support boat.
Uh oh.
At least the water was warm there. What's it like in Geneva?
We are now the proud owners of wetsuits, splash tops (a.k.a. waterproof jackets), booties, gloves, life jackets (for the kids), 'buoyancy aids' (for G and me).... I thought it was overkill--after all, I associate sailing with jumping off the boat and swimming--but today proved that it's all necessary and happiness-inducing.
XS wetsuits are very cute. Mine might not be deemed "cute", but I'm sure I will appreciate it. In the middle of summer we will be able to swim in the water, skin bared.
Are you feeling OK now?
