I went to the Listening Mothers group this morning. It was fun. Most of the babies in this group were born in November but there is one who is almost 6months old and one who was a premie so is smaller than Wren.
Many of them are noisy sleepers. The mother of one of the other noisy sleepers ("sleeps" from 11pm - 7am already) said her baby sleeps in her own room in a crib. At first they had the baby monitor on but it kept her awake hearing the almost-cries and resettling so they keep the nursery door open and turned off the monitor.
I wouldn't go that far but perhaps some kind of earplug is in order :)

Hey Shannon,
Could his grunting and stuff just be from gas and/or having BMs?
I know that Ryan is usually a quiet sleeper unless I haven't been able to get good burps out of him and then he just seems to grunt/groan until he has a BM. I have noticed that Mylicon is helping him a bit when he has gas.
Just a thought.
Take care.

hey Shan - does Wren sleep in a bassinet/crib or in your bed? If the latter: while you needn't go so far as to move him to a separate room, it could help to at least have him sleep-kick-grunt-cry-thrash in his own space. You'll still wake up (I still wake up if I hear Luca or Kenji in the middle of the night, even though they're upstairs and I'm down!) but at least you won't be physically in the line of fire... and Wren might have more chance to settle himself down. Earplugs don't work for me; I find I become too preoccupied with the fact that I might not hear the boys if I need to. But I have a fantastic eye mask (sort of a silk beanbag that's a perfect soothing weight on my eyes) which helps soothe me. It was my saviour when Kenji was a newborn and waking a lot during the night. I really feel for you. Sartre was onto something in No Exit, where Hell was a place where the lights never switched off. love, Tam
Heather, I haven't tried teh Mylicon... at first I thought it was a bowel/gas thing but he never does it during the day - only after a period of some deep sleeps so I suspect its either a sleep phase thing or a reflux thing (that bothers him after lying down longer).
Still, I'll keep that in mind.
Tam, I couldn't really put in earplugs. Wren sleeps on a wedge in our bed. I think I may move teh crib to another room - not to put him there all day but so he can sleep on the wedge BY the bed, not in it. That would let me move a bit away. Last night I tried letting him sleep in the bed right next to me thinking that would reduce his flailing. It did somewhat but not the noise.
Hey Shannon,
We bought the mini co-sleeper and we put the wedge thingy in it...works great. That way we get him away from our heads (ears) a little.
Good luck!
Thinking and praying for you guys constantly!
Take care.
