Yesterday, I returned from a 72 hour silent-retreat in a snowy forest center near Portland.   It was lovely but life is a study in contrast  and silence has a way of making noise more... well... noisy.

"It IS made of metal Dad!" he said gleefully.

There is no appreciable difference in him although he wondered whether he had grown 3 inches on the morning of his birthday.  He felt that there should be a visible change.

It was his eighth dentist appointment in the space of three months as his fillings keep falling out.   We are not sure why but at least he's getting better at having them done, repeatedly.

Wren said "I have never seen a real live raccoon before."

Here it is.



The problem is that it seems to be injured.  Its front left paw was hanging and it wasn't using it.

So, this morning at Breakfast Wren complained of cheese pain.  He said "Ow, ow, my che** hurts.  I think it is the metal in my chest from surgery!"

Wren only learned or rather, re-learned about the metal in his chest recently.  I thought he might be suffering psychological pain so I asked where it hurt.

type='text'>Na Pali by boat, with whales, in winter</title><summary type='text'>We've been snorkeling and swimming daily but yesterday we went on a big outing up the Na Pali Coast.   The Na Pali is a famous coastline in Kauai which is inaccessible by car.  Part of the coast can be seen by hiking the 11 mile Kalalau trail from the North of the island.  By all accounts it is an exposed and fairly hard hike with great climbs and descents and is not recommended in times of rain.</summary><link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' type='text'>Kauai</title><summary type='text'>We have made it to Kauai!   It was a long flight from Seattle - 5.5 of Wriggling Wren and ipad.   Hawaiian airlines was adequate.   There were lots of Aloha's and mahalos but no free consigned luggage or in seat entertainment.  Even headsets to listen to the distant TV screening were $5, portable DVD players, $15.  We did receive a quiche and muffin for lunch and Josh and I did the Jack Sprat

However, his haemocrit was 32 which is low-normal.  He needs some multi-vitamins with iron.
